Mugshot Monday: Čajovňa Klopačka

Culprit: Čajovňa Klopačka

Location: A.Sládkoviča č. 7, 969 00 Banská Štiavnica, SK

Verdict: If heaven were a café…

Description: For centuries, civilizations have waged a silent war over who has the best coffee. Creating the perfect brew has become a precise, almost molecular science. There are cross-cultural disputes over the perfect coffee to water ratio and an unspoken rule regarding the precise time of day one should drink an espresso versus a cappuccino. It seems there is even a universal, unwritten book of boujee coffee terms many a hipster café seems much too keen to refer to.

But after enjoying lots of cups of coffee throughout Europe and beyond, I can say with confidence that complications of grandeur do not make for an out-of-this-world cup of joe.

Timeless tradition with a dash of spice is what kept me returning to Banská Štiavnica’s remarkable Klopačka Teahouse during the short time I was there.

Turkish Delight

Everyone we talked to who had been to Banská Štiavnica recommended Klopačka with enthusiasm, so we made a point to go to the historical teahouse with over 100 types of tea and an eclectic Buddhist interior.

Preached on top of a hill just outside of the city’s centre, it’s the perfect place to get out a retro board game and admire the view.

As neither my boyfriend or I are big tea drinkers, we skipped over the novella on tea (seriously, their selection is insanely wide) and opted for traditional Turkish coffee with cinnamon and cardamom.

IT. WAS. GLORIOUS.

We got about two and half espresso cups worth each of the scrumptious coffee, elevated in flavor with some lemon cheesecake and refreshing citronada (water mixed with lemon and mint). As an added bonus, it was all just under 10 euros.

Pure, not-at-all boujee perfection!

This gorgeous selection of absolute deliciousness was the perfect way to spend an autumn afternoon in one of the best towns in Slovakia. We ended up returning the next day and the day after that (though it was closed) because we just could not get enough.

I am simply infatuated with Klopačka and you surely will be too.

So, if you’re planning on going there anytime soon, please bring me along!
